The design approach

A hotel event foyer must accommodate registration, arrivals, breaks and movement between meeting spaces. Marimol Silk 24x24 polished porcelain is explored here as a continuous floor across an open prefunction hall. Its subtle pattern offers visual interest without competing with event displays, while its square module provides an orderly rhythm along a long circulation space.

Layout and circulation

Ballroom entrance pairs establish one side of the hall, with tall glazing on the other. Registration desks are placed outside door swings and primary travel paths. Limited seating is grouped at the edge so the center remains available for event movement. The tile grid is coordinated across door recesses, column lines and adjacent thresholds. Joint positions should be resolved in the floor plan rather than concealed beneath movable event furniture.

Material palette

Blue-gray wall panels, dark timber doors and restrained metallic accents give this foyer a different identity from the corporate and restaurant studies. Marimol Silk’s pale base relates to daylight, while its fine gray veins connect with the cooler wall palette. The polished finish is evaluated with both daytime glazing and evening event lighting so reflections do not overwhelm wayfinding or threshold visibility.

Specification review

Check movement joints across long runs, rolling equipment loads, protection during event setup and entrance moisture management. Review proposed cleaning methods and slip data with the hotel’s facilities team. Acoustic wall and ceiling treatments should be coordinated separately from the hard floor.

Intended outcome

The design aims for a calm, flexible prefunction space in which the floor remains consistent as event furniture changes. No claim is made that the hotel commissioned, approved or installed this design.
