AutoNation | An Open, Light-Filled Showroom

The design approach

This proposed AutoNation application uses Onyx Dawn 24x48 to connect vehicle display, reception, and customer seating within one bright showroom. The image presents an open white ceiling, glazed offices, large exterior windows, and a pale ivory floor with warm veining. The resulting composition gives the vehicles visual prominence while adding more warmth than a purely gray interior palette.

Design challenge

The design challenge is to establish a consistent showroom floor that works visually at several scales: the full room, the reception desk, the customer lounge, and the area immediately around each vehicle. The material needs to provide an orderly background without introducing a strong pattern that competes with the displayed cars.

Layout and material direction

In the image, the onyx-inspired surface extends through the central customer area and toward the vehicles. A disciplined 24x48 grid would help organize the large footprint. Installation drawings should coordinate the tile layout with office glazing, display positions, and reception edges. Face distribution needs particular attention across open areas where repetition is more visible than it is beneath furniture.

Coordinated palette

White walls and ceiling structure maintain a bright setting. Pale wood reception details, neutral customer seating, and planting soften the commercial architecture. Warm veining adds a subtle connection between these elements while allowing vehicles with different paint colors to remain the focal points.

Specification review

Vehicle display requires a project-specific technical review. Confirm the tile and full installation assembly are suitable for anticipated wheel loads, turning forces, and the substrate conditions. Obtain relevant manufacturer guidance before specifying any vehicle-access area. Also evaluate wet-weather entry conditions, cleaning products, joint design, and maintenance access.
